When the story opens, our teen heroine has been imprisoned in the salt mines. No one lasts long there. So, when she is offered the chance to compete for her freedom, she takes it, even though the competition is to become the despised king’s personal assassin. It’s just for 4 years. She will find a way to get through this. It’s her only chance, and she has a good chance at winning. She is highly trained.She is sent to the castle along with 23 other infamous criminals, and begins training for the competition. Her sponsor is the crown prince and her trainer the loyal captain of the king’s guard. Neither is going to be the kind of person she expects them to be, and an interesting love triangle will emerge as the story progresses.And the story is complex.
